Fantasy Baseball Picks: Best DraftKings MLB DFS Goals, Values for June 14

At this point in my life, I am quite easily impressed. UberEats arrived five minutes early? One of the three elevators in my building is not currently out of order? Is the water jug in the fridge really full? For each of them, I’m basically Homer Simpson sees a dog with a puffy tail.

Still, sometimes my wonder is warranted, like tonight, where for the second time in the last three days of the week, we find ourselves with an elusive 15-game MLB slate on DraftKings.

Let’s break this big boy down with some benchmarks and values.

LAUNCHER

Standard

Dylan Cease, Chicago White Sox at Detroit Tigers$8,800 – It’s been an odd stretch for Cease, who looked almost untouchable at the start of May. Technically speaking, the right-hander hasn’t allowed an earned run in each of his last three starts – a span of 16.1 innings. However, Cease also gave up nine unearned runs in those three outings and was recently touched by the Red Sox and Yankees. Still, for the season as a whole, Cease sports a 2.84 xERA and a massive strikeout rate of 32.7%. His price should never go below $9,000 with that kind of advantage, especially against a Tigers roster that produced the league’s worst 52 wRC+ in June so far.

Assess

Tyler Mahle, Cincinnati Reds at Arizona Diamonds$7,500 – While a 10.5% walk rate is ugly and self-inflicted, Mahle was one of the unluckiest pitchers in baseball in 2022. Due to a 63.6% walk rate, the RHP’s 3.69 FIP is far below his 5.07 ERA, and a much better indication of how well Mahle threw. However, statistical normalization has slowly taken place. In Mahle’s last three outings, he had a 1.93 ERA and 31.6 percent strikeout rate, with 10 strikeouts against that same Arizona roster on Thursday. For the season, the Diamondbacks’ 90 wRC+ is the fifth-lowest rating in MLB, making it a great game for Mahle to continue his strong streak of results.

INTERIOR

Standard

Jose Ramirez, Cleveland Guardians at Colorado Rockies$6,100 – Ramirez will be a popular target on Tuesday, but how can you resist? Not only has Antonio Senzatela ($6,000) has allowed opposing hitters to post a .418 wOBA at Coors Field so far in 2022, but Ramirez has easily been at his best against right-handed pitchers. Namely, Ramirez has managed a 109 wRC+ as LHB this season, and that number jumps to a staggering 214 wRC+ as RHB.

Standard

Bo Bichette, Toronto Blue Jays versus. Baltimore Orioles$5,500 – Few hitters in baseball are as hot as Bichette. Going back to May 16 – a span of 116 plate appearances – Bichette reduced 0.318/0.371/0.589 with a 170 wRC+. It’s a big reason why the Blue Jays as a whole are the best offense in baseball in June and why the team has one of the highest implied totals on this list. Jordan Lyles ($6,600) is another factor. The RHP struggled to pull away from newly refurbished Camden Yards in 2022, allowing opponents to muster a .413 wOBA on the road.

Assess

Darin Ruf, San Francisco Giants versus. Kansas City Royals$3,700 – Ruf is the dictionary definition of a platoon bat. This season, against left-handed opponents, Ruf has recorded an ISO .263 and a 136 wRC+. If that sample isn’t big enough for you, for his entire career the veteran has managed an impressive 151 wRC+ in the division. Ruf should have little problem with Kris Bubic ($5,400)which has a nasty 8.30 xERA in 2022.

Assess

Cavan Biggio, Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles, $2,500 – With Biggio essentially locked in ninth place in the Jays’ batting order, it’s getting hard to ignore his recent success. Since returning from Triple-A on May 26, Biggio is slashing .308/.460/.487 with a 174 wRC+ over 50 board appearances. He will certainly struggle to sustain that over a full season, but Tuesday is a different story. Lyles has been terrible against LHB in 2022, with opposing southpaws hitting .558 against the veteran RHP. Yeah.

OUTSIDE FIELD

Standard

JD Martinez, Boston Red Sox versus. Oakland Athletics$5,100 – Death, taxes and use of Martinez against a disappointing left-handed pitcher. Jared Koenig ($5,600) wasn’t completely horrible in his first MLB start last week against the Braves, but he gave up two barrels, four earned runs and plenty of hard contact. That should be more than enough opportunity for Martinez, who slashes .410/.511/.641 with a 223 wRC+ against LHP in 2022. Those are video game numbers, as the kids say.

Standard

Teoscar Hernandez, Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles, $4,800 – Injuries limited Hernandez in the first two months of the season, but I think it’s safe to say the two-time Silver Slugger winner is back. Since May 31, Hernandez is slashing .380/.426/.620 with a 195 wRC+ over 54 board appearances. His demotion to fifth in the Jays’ batting order isn’t ideal, but with a price tag under $5,000, it’s hard to complain.

Assess

Ian Happ, Chicago Cubs versus. San Diego Padres$3,500 – Happ has been a solid option on both sides of the plate this season, but in a perfect world you use him in DFS against southpaws. In his 51 board appearances in the division, Happ cut .348/.412/.543 with a 167 wRC+. Pretty good, right? Obviously, Sean Manaea ($8,500) is also good; however, the LHP has posted a 4.32 ERA in its last eight appearances. It’s a decent stretch, but nothing that makes me want to avoid this place with Happ.

Assess

Austin Slater, San Francisco Giants vs. Kansas City Royals, $2,900 – Nothing too complex here. When the Giants face a left-handed opponent, Slater takes the lead. It makes sense. For his career, Slater is a .281 hitter with a 129 wRC+ in the division. He’s also hit RHPs quite well in 2022, so there’s a chance he won’t be hit when Bubic inevitably exits this contest early. It’s a nice little bonus.

STACKING TEAMS

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Baltimore Orioles – I’m not exactly reinventing the wheel by telling you to stack the team with the best wRC+ of June (168), but you can get creative with How? ‘Or’ What you stack Toronto tonight. Whereas Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ($5,400) and George Springer ($5,300) are legitimately expensive, things get more manageable with a value available at the bottom of the Jays order with Lourdes Gurriel ($3,400), Gabriel Moreno ($2,200) and Biggio. Maybe an 8-9-1 stack differentiates you from the field?
