CPT® Webinar: Understanding the Taxonomy of AI

Rapid advances in artificial intelligence/augmented intelligence (AI)-based healthcare innovation are reshaping technology’s ability to improve patient care, population health, and provider working lives health care. The pace of innovation is also accelerating the need for trusted resources and guidance to get answers and meaningful perspective on AI.
Focused on making technology an asset, not a burden, in the delivery of healthcare, the AMA is committed to helping physicians and other healthcare professionals be well-informed as they navigate new applications of AI and new gaps in understanding. A crucial resource is the very language used to describe these AI applications, and the services and procedures they enable.
As the language of medicine today, the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) codeset reflects the latest in medical patient care. To this end, the AMA CPT Editorial Board agreed to the addition of CPT Annex S: AI taxonomy for medical services and procedures. The taxonomy provides guidance for describing and classifying various AI applications and came into effect on January 1, 2022.
