MarineTraffic adds live ship values to the platform – Digital Ship

Vessel tracking information and maritime analytics company MarineTraffic has partnered with maritime data specialists Signal Ocean to provide vessel ratings on its platform.
Under the agreement, MarineTraffic users will now see Signal Ocean’s estimated vessel value when viewing vessel details.
This live and historical data, which is updated weekly, is derived from recent transactions and a sophisticated algorithm that takes into account a range of data points including vessel age, shipyard construction, size, equipment or refits. The service will initially be available to tankers >25,000 DWT and dry bulk carriers >20,000 DWT.
The move is part of MarineTraffic’s 2022 strategy to expand the data available on its platform to its professional users and create a hub for the marine industry. Since its launch in 2007, MarineTraffic has brought shipping movement to the world: the service currently has three million subscribers and averages six million visits to its website each month.
“We are excited to partner with Signal to add credible ship ratings to our platform. Additional data on the voyage or the life of the ship is essential for our millions of users. Our vision is to leave no stone unturned and provide more information through our platform than ever before. We will be announcing other significant enhancements to MarineTraffic in the coming months,” said MarineTraffic Managing Director Dimitris Memos.
Signal Ocean’s Vice President of Business Development and Partnerships, David Watts, said, “The data we provide on the Signal Ocean platform and through APIs is popular with professionals looking for independent and accurate information on the current values of fleets or individual vessels. We are delighted to see our data available on such a popular site.
