The Scottish First Minister showed off her basketball skills during an SNP campaign visit to Glasgow on Saturday afternoon.

During the trip to Partick in the west of the city, Nicola Sturgeon took to the basketball court with locals to try her hand at shooting.

To cheers from campaigners, the SNP leader managed to shoot three hoops in a row – although some commentators suggested her technique was more like netball than basketball.

Scotland’s only professional basketball franchise, the Glen Luss Glasgow Rocks, were impressed with the result but issued constructive criticism of the Prime Minister.

They commented: “An unusual technique… but we cannot discuss the result.

“Tell us if you want [Jonny Bunyan] (best free throw in the @BBLofficial} to show you how it’s done.

The SNP campaign bus, currently touring the country ahead of the May 5 vote, was in west Glasgow in the afternoon, kicking off in Kelvingrove Park where Sturgeon met the candidates BAME of the party.

During the visit, the First Minister expressed optimism that the SNP could retain leadership of Glasgow City Council after the vote.

The SNP took over the administration of Labor in the last election in 2017, and the council is a key target for Scottish Labor this year.

Despite her confidence, Sturgeon said she is not content with any election.

She told reporters: “I’m confident in the sense that I’m optimistic (winning Glasgow City Council) but in all my years in politics I’ve learned never to take anything for granted and to never be complacent with elections.

“You have to work very hard to win an election. You have to work hard to earn people’s trust in the first place. You have to work hard to earn that trust back, and we are campaigning hard in Glasgow and across the country.

“I’m optimistic, I’m enjoying the campaign, I’m enjoying being outdoors – I think everyone enjoys being outdoors after the last two years.

“But I don’t take a single vote for granted.”
