Webinar announcement

Join this webinar with Dr. Ben Burke, CTO and Co-Founder of Transitional Energy, for an engaging presentation on geothermal conversion of oil and gas wells in Nevada.

As part of the regular IGC webinar series – a partnership between Enerchange and ThinkGeoEnergy – we are proud to welcome this week’s presenter, Dr Ben Burke, from transition energywhich will provide information on the geothermal conversion of existing oil and gas wells in Nevada.

After the presentation, you will have the opportunity to discuss and ask further questions.

After working as a geoscientist and subsurface professional in the northeastern Gulf Coast and mountainous regions of the western United States for 23 years, Dr. Ben Burke is now director of the technology and co-founder of transition energy. Prior to co-founding Transitional Energy in February 2020, Ben Burke had also worked in the oil and gas industry in Houston and Denver.

Conversion of oil and gas wells to geothermal energy producers will be tested in the Pine Valley of north-central Nevada, USA, and in the western geologic provinces of America North. The oilfield hosting the project was once one of the most prolific onshore oilfields in the United States in the early 1980s. Today, the field produces approximately 99% water with reservoir temperatures over 120 degrees Celsius. Geothermal conversion, as well as co-production alongside existing oil and gas production, takes into account underground geoscientific and reservoir engineering parameters, current and potential artificial lift capabilities in wells, integrity of the wellbore, the geochemistry of the fluids produced and the current surface. facility capabilities and potential for future expansion.

In addition to presenting the general framework and schedule for the project, the webinar will also cover the technical considerations and some of the data science aspects of the analysis.
